my right eye swells shut every time I get a migraine. Then when it is relieved water gushes from my eye. Is this normal? Is there anything I can do to prevent these. I am a single mother of an autistic child. There is nothing worse than trying to deal with a autistic meltdown and a crippling migraine at the same time.

I have not heard of this specifically before, but I'm not surprised. Visual disturbances or issues with your eyes are very common with migraine. I get a rainbow aura on my right side as well as reversed tunnel vision. Your eye must be very sensitive. And there is nothing worse than having to care for a child while having a migraine. I feel for you.

I have never heard of that before. Have you asked your doctor about it?

SillyJilly, I get the exact same symptoms. I am a single mother of three. I cradle the entre left side of head in ice. I find a bag of frozen peas or corn works well. I use a satin scarf to secure it to my head if I cannot lay down and use it as a pillow. I wrap it in paper towel because applying directly over my head/eye hurts. This relieved the pressure on my eye. Sometimes I just put it on the back of my head to help constict arteries that are carrying too much blood to my headache area. Put pressure on your temples or wherever it hurts the most to put pressure. use one knuckle. Yes it hurts, but it also relieves the ungodly pressure on your eye. you may even be able to open it. I THINK for several weeks before I feel an actual headache water gushes from my eyes about 30 minutes after I wake up. I think that is the warning that my body is about to go into headache mode. I just realized this with the current stretch of migraines.
